  When I was growing up I would always go to our local ACE store. I'm in the process of moving and have been to this location a few times. The employees are friendly and the store is clean. Though, with the amount of competition and options, a bad experience just motivates me to go to a different store. I had 3 keys made at the ACE near my old apartment in Illinois for my new place in Wisconsin. When I tested my keys, 2 of the 3 worked. So I went to my new local ACE with the keys and receipt to have them recut the key. I was informed that I would have to pay again. I find this bizarre and not a good practice. I have had this same scenario happen at Home Depot (two different locations) and they gave me no trouble (nor did they charge me). I could understand if I wanted a new key but I just wanted to have it recut (which would only cost their store a little of their time). Luckily I will be going back to my place in Illinois one last time in a week. I will have them recut the key at my old location. After this, I will be going to Home Depot and Walmart for my future needs. EDIT: Manager contacted me and informed me this was not their store policy. He offered an apology and to recut the key free of charge.
